"Aline"   الطفولة 2012
My childhood friend, whom I had not seen since I was 13 years old, surprised me by coming to America from Egypt.  A picture flashed in my spirit.  It was a picture of innocence, when I lived for the day and not having a care in the world.  This is what I ended up painting. It's not my usual style of strong lines and colors, because it could not be.  It is a memory and a fantasy of returning to an ethereal gentle time, where little girls played and didn't give tomorrow a second thought.

"The Resurrection Of The Spine" 2013

"The Resurrection Of The Spine"
I was once told that I have too much faith.  Well, Faith by definition Faith is just that, Faith!  It's beautiful and amazing.  It gets us into a supernatural realm where there are no limitations. So I like to meditate on that. A  central nervous system does not regenerate, but in the realm of faith it's not only possible but very highly probable... ultimately happenable (I know that's not a word), but let's add it to our dictionary.

We are created with beautiful swatches of brilliant colors.  as we grow life might make us feel pale, so to speak.  The colors are still there.  This is an "x-ray" of how we really look and the brilliance we possess inside.

"Moon Gazing" 2008
So what did I do when I was in too much pain to sleep or function?  I painted.  My fingers were not cooperating, and every which way that i tried to hold my brush just did not work.  So I just painted with the canvas on my lap... sideways and whatever, and out came the moon gazer.  Rough and unblended, but it tells a story none the less.

"Fascination" 2013
I love the moon... actually it's a bit of an obsession. It all started when I forgot all sense of time when I was swimming in the sea in Alexandria, Eg. I think I might have been around eight years old.  I simply looked up and realized it was night.  I panicked for a moment when I realized that I was all alone.  But there it was in all of its silver glory, the moon lit my way home.  I was in a heap of trouble, but that's a whole other story!

"La Vie En Bleu" 2011
La vie en rose, great song and beautiful lyrics. But sometimes it's la vie en bleu on some parts of our journey. A bit of blue and a bit of rose, that is just reality.

"A Hot Night In Old Cairo" 2011
I remember the neighborhood where I was born.  We lived there for the first four years of my life, before we moved to a "more modern" part of of Egypt, Heliopolis.  The thing about modern neighborhoods is that they tend to be too quiet and to be honest, less fun for a kid.  This painting captures a mental photograph that has always brought me joy... the bright fabrics of the laundry that was hung to dry on hot old Cairo nights.

"قوة المرأة المصرية"
"Strength Of The Egyptian Woman"
The Arab spring revolution, in Egypt, brought with it so much upheaval.  Extremists took over the government and under their rule, they ordered women to cover themselves and stay at home.  So many unspeakable atrocities took place.  I was inspired by a story that my cousin, who lives in Egypt told me; the women in Upper Egypt were surrounding the ancient churches to prevent the terrorists from burning these churches down.  The women stepped in, when the men were too afraid.  Wow I loved that.

"Grief Hope"
This is where it all started.  The frustration and pain of my physical condition could not be expressed by words.  So I grabbed some old craft bottles of acrylic paint and an old, used stiff brush and purged out all the emotions in my heart on a cheap canvas.  The relief I felt was amazing!  And thus began my painting journey.
